British government has no idea what it's doing - O'Dowd
Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd has said it is clear the British government has no idea what it is doing over Brexit.
"Sinn Féin has consistently said it is clear the British government haven't got a clue what it is doing over Brexit.
"In all of our engagements with Theresa May, James Brokenshire and other ministers it is apparent there is no plan, strategy or direction.
"Now even Tory MPs are fed up with the British government's bluff and attempts to pull the wool over their eyes and are demanding more details and threatening to vote against their own government if they don't get them.
"The only thing certain is that the majority of people in the North voted to remain in the EU and that must be recognised and respected.
"There is an onus on all within our society who are opposed to the North being dragged out of the EU to make their voices heard and help shape our collective future.
"Unionist, Nationalist and Republicans have common cause in ensuring the North receives special status within the EU.
"Equality and human rights groups and a broad swathe of civic society all have a role to play in campaigning and shaping the future rather than leaving it to the British government.
"The Irish government is central in securing Special EU status for the benefit of the entire Island of Ireland."
