Northern Councils to bring Presidential Voting Rights campaign to Leinster House – Ó Donnghaile
Sinn Féin Seanadóir Niall Ó Donnghaile will be joined by council representatives from four northern councils which recently passed motions calling for the extension of Presidential voting rights in a protest at Leinster House tomorrow.
Commenting after meeting with Sinn Féin Organisers from across the North at Stormont today Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile said;
“There is palpable frustration and disappointment that the Irish Government, supported by Fianna Fáil, continue to delay this issue.
“Just a short time ago in the Seanad they bandied together with Fine Gael to defeat a Sinn Féin motion calling for a timeframe for the extension of the vote to all citizens.
“Tomorrow representatives from the four councils who are demanding equality and rights for all citizens will be at Leinster House at 11:30am.
“They will be sending another clear message to the Government and their partners in Fianna Fáil that full citizenship and the most basic entitlement, the right to vote, should not be denied any longer.
“As we head into the New Year the growing sense of frustration and disappointment at the Government’s denial of full citizenship to citizens in the north at a time of such critical political importance will no doubt continue to grow and so too will the campaign for a President for All.”
