Ellis welcomes the passing of the rickshaw amendment to the Road Traffic Bill
Sinn Féin TD for Dublin North West Dessie Ellis has welcomed the passing of an amendment to the Road Traffic Bill 2016 which will give the National Transport Authority powers to regulate the operation of rickshaws. The amendment proposed by Sinn Féin Transport Spokesperson Imelda Munster was passed last night in the Dáil.
Deputy Ellis said
“I have been calling on the Government to regulate rickshaws for a number of years now and I welcome the passing of Deputy Munster's amendment. This will be a positive change for cities and towns across the country as this amendment will make sure the rickshaws are roadworthy.
“It will also provide operators, passengers and other road-users protection under law should traffic incidents occur involving rickshaws. This amendment will also allow for rickshaw operators to be licensed, regulated and tax compliant which will be in the best interests of everyone.”
