Ó Donnghaile calls for Irish passport office in the north after record figures
Sinn Féin Seanadóir Niall Ó Donnghaile called today for a passport office to be opened in the north after a record breaking 740,000 Irish passports were issued this year:
Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile said:
“A record-breaking 740,000 Irish passports have been issued this year.
“More than 65,000 of those passports were issued to citizens in the north.
“A passport office in the north would improve access to the service for Irish citizens here.
“Demand for Irish passports in the north has increased since the EU referendum result and the British government announced its intentions to drag the north out of the EU.
“The increase in the number of Irish passport applications also emphasizes the need for the Irish government to work to achieve special designated status for the north within the EU.”
