MEP hosts Euro Childcare conference Dublin
Dublin Sinn Fein MEP Mary Lou McDonald is to host a conference on Childcare in Europe in Dublin next Saturday, 23 April. The conference, in the Axis Centre, Ballymun, will be addressed by speakers, childcare experts and political representatives from Ireland, Italy and Finland.
Sandra Piccinini representing a childcare group based in the town of Reggio Emilia, Italy and Mary Lee Stapleton of the National Children's Nurseries Association (NCNA) will analyse childcare systems in other EU members states with examples of best practice internationally and the mistakes that can be learned from as well as an overview of the system in Ireland.
Anne Huotar MP of the Left Alliance party in Finland will outline the social, cultural and economic benefits of quality childcare provision in another EU member state, while Orla O'Connor of the National Women's Council of Ireland will outline the problems caused by the lack of quality childcare provision in Ireland.
Other speakers include Sinn Fein Dail leader Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin TD and Dublin City Councillor Dessie Ellis.
There will be provision for discussion and questions and answers after each session and the closing address will be delivered by Mary Lou McDonald MEP.
Sandra Piccinini and Anne Huotar will be available to speak to the media on the day.
