British government has abjectly failed to deal with the past - Dillon
Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon has said the British government has abjectly failed in its responsibilities on dealing with the legacy of the past.
Linda Dillon was responding to a speech by British Secretary of State James Brokenshire today.
Ms Dillon said;
"It is disingenuous of British secretary of state James Brokenshire to talk about what his government has done to address the legacy of the past when they have blocked progress at every turn
"As recently as this week the British government has frustrated efforts to deal with the past, the ongoing refusal to release information, as well as funding for legacy inquests. This has added insult to injury for the victims.
"Families are entitled to truth and justice about the death of their loved ones and the British government is denying that by failing to live up to its responsibilities.
“The victims deserve more than mere platitudes from James Brokenshire which owe more to the British government’s ongoing efforts to cover up rather than dealing with the legacy of the past.
“They need to implement the Stormont House agreed legacy mechanisms in a human rights compliant manner."
