Time for Brokenshire to stop talking and deal with legacy issue - Kelly
Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly said the British Secretary of State should stop talking about dealing with the issue of legacy of the past and honour his government’s agreements.
Gerry Kelly said:
“James Brokenshire continues to tell all and sundry that he is tackling the issue of legacy of the past.
“However, more than two years on from the Stormont House Agreement the British government is still blocking the implementation of the agreed legacy mechanisms and hiding behind the excuse of 'national security'.
“The Lord Chief Justice has asked repeatedly for funds for legacy inquests. James Brokenshire should release the money for these inquests immediately so victims and survivors can have the long awaited inquest into the deaths of their loved ones.
“It is well past time for the British government to honour its agreements and set up legacy mechanisms in a human rights compliant manner.”
