HIA report points up enormous failings - Dillon
Sinn Féin MLA Linda Dillon has welcomed the publication of a panel report from the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry.
Speaking after the publication of the findings of the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry, Ms Dillon said:
"I welcome the publication of this important report from the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry.
"This report acknowledges the horrendous hurt and suffering of so many and the awful wrong that was done for so many years.
"I want to pay tribute to the many victims and survivors who came forward to participate in this inquiry. Many others felt they couldn’t and our thoughts are with them today.
"We now need to see the full implementation of all the recommendations of the panel as soon as possible in order to address the needs of victims and survivors.
"The PSNI now have a responsibility to thoroughly investigate all allegations so that justice can be done.
“The state and these institutions failed in their duty to protect vulnerable children in their care. This is a failure of enormous proportions and the victims and survivors deserve a full apology."
