Sinn Féin outlines six key priorities for tackling the housing crisis
Sinn Féin today held a protest outside Leinster House to highlight the government’s lack of action to tackle the housing crisis.
Speaking at the protest the party’s Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD outlined six priorities for tackling the housing crisis.
“The government simply isn’t doing enough to tackle the causes of the housing and homeless crisis.
“Sinn Féin has proposed six key measures that the government urgently needs to enact in order to get a handle on this crisis.
“We need real rent certainty and greater protection for tenants.
“We need ten thousand social houses every year until this crisis ends.
“We need action on the 198,000 vacant properties across the state.
“We need to see the price of houses for purchasers to be brought down, greater action from NAMA to provide social and affordable houses and a moratorium on home repossessions to give a break to those struggling to keep their homes.
“The government urgently needs to take these six key actions in order to tackle what is becoming the most urgent housing crisis the state has ever seen.”
