Government must deliver a Commission of Investigation into Stardust tragedy - Denise Mitchell TD
Sinn Féin TD Denise Mitchell has said that the Government must begin the work of ending the long and painful journey that the families of the Stardust victims have had to endure for over three decades.
Deputy Mitchell made the comments as a motion comes before the Dáil this evening which calls for a Commission of Investigation be established into the 1981 tragedy.
The Dublin Bay North TD stated:
“The families have endured considerable pain since 1981. This motion calling for the establishment a Commission of Investigation will hopefully lay the pathway to a resolution and the delivery of truth for the families.
“Words cannot fully describe the enormity of pain that has been felt as a result of the deaths of forty-eight young people on Valentine’s Night thirty-six years ago.
“I am calling on all politicians in the Dáil to support this motion. For those who died long before their time, for those who suffered injury - both physical and psychological, for the Mothers, Fathers, brothers and sisters of the victims, action needs to be taken by this Government to establish a Commission of Investigation into the Stardust tragedy.”
