Sinn Féin endorses UFU approach to nitrates

29 April, 2005

Sinn Fein national agriculture and rural regeneration department chair Gery
McHugh has endorsed the approach of the Ulster Farmers Union to the nitrates
issue.

Former Chairperson of Fermanagh District Council Mr McHugh said:

”We support the approach been taken by the UFU, in seeking a common approach
by all of the political parties.

“Both DARD and the DOE will have to take on board a common consensus. Sinn
Féin have already set out the need for greater capital assistance from DARD,
and a reduction in the "closed period.

”It is important to note that all of the political parties share concern on
this issue, this shall be a test of how much direct rule ministers actually
listen to elected political representatives, or will they continue to over
rule the wishes of the people of the North.

”Sinn Féin will be making a response ourselves in the coming weeks.” ENDS
