Mulvey’s Plan Must Deliver – ‘We need a plan that spans generations’ – McDonald
Speaking today after the presentation of an outline plan ‘Creating a Brighter Future’ for Social and Economic Regeneration of Dublin’s North Inner City, Sinn Féin deputy leader Mary Lou McDonald TD called for a plan that ‘spans generations’.
The outline plan was presented by Mr Kieran Mulvey to a meeting of the North Inner City Community Coalition.
Deputy McDonald said:
‘Kieran Mulvey’s presentation today provided an outline of a plan. The community is anxious to see the full report and recommendations for the regeneration and investment in Dublin’s North Inner City.
“The community has been neglected for many years and needs immediate investment in jobs and education opportunities for our local youth. There needs to be the provision of adequate housing and increased services in the community. We have to ensure full community consultation and involvement in any plans that are being decided for the area.
“Many plans have been written over the years; very few of them have been implemented or come to fruition. This community has had decades of broken promises.
“A successful plan must span generations, not only the lifetime of this government. The North Inner City cannot be abandoned again. The Mulvey Plan must be resourced and must deliver.
“This is an area steeped in history and culture that should be developed and embraced. For some the community is defined by negative events or negative headlines. The people of the North Inner City are, quite rightly, proud of their community. They are resilient and irrepressible.
“This community deserves investment in people, investment in their future.”
