Doolan slams OPW permission for mobile phone mast

4 May, 2005

Dublin Southeast Sinn Féin Councillor, Daithí Doolan has said that there should be no installation of a phone mast on Bishop Street in Dublin 8 without consultation with the local residents. Councillor Doolan was commenting today after it was revealed that mobile phone company 3G has been given permission to erect a phone mast on Bishop Street.

He said, "Mobile phone company 3G have been given permission to erect a phone mast on the grounds of a building on Bishop Street in Dublin 8. This building is exempt from planning permission because it belongs to the office of public works. However this does not mean that the concerns of the local residents are insignificant.

"The very least that the company could do would be to meet with the local residents to address their concerns. I will not support the installation of the mast until that is done. So my message is very clear, no installation without consultation."ENDS
