Sheehan welcomes plan to address waiting lists

7 February, 2017 - by Pat Sheehan

Sinn Féin's Pat Sheehan welcomed news that the Health Minister has published a plan to address waiting lists.

The Party's Health spokesperson said:

"The Elective Care Plan published by my party colleague and Health Minister Michelle O'Neill will address waiting times for planned treatments, care and diagnostics.

"The plan will follow through the commitments made in ‘Health and Wellbeing 2026: Delivering Together’ which was launched in October.

"The first stage of the plan will require a total of £31.2million funding to clear the backlog of patients waiting more than 52 weeks for a first outpatient appointment and inpatient/daycase by March 2018.

"In addition the backlog of patients waiting more than 26 weeks at March 2017 for diagnostics will also be cleared by March 2018.

"Investment in our Health and Social Care services is essential if we want to deliver better outcomes for our population.

"We must also listen to the advice and concerns of the frontline HSC staff in order to meet the demands for services in a more sustainable manner."
