Educating children on internet safety a priority for everyone - Flynn
Sinn Féin candidate for West Belfast Órlaithí Flynn said educating children and young people about the dangers of the internet should remain a priority for everyone.
The party's spokesperson on children and young people said:
"I would urge all parents and those who work with children and young people to educate them about the dangers of the internet.
“Over the past number of years new technologies have become important to the lives of children and young people.
“Technology offers new opportunities for us all, allowing us to connect with each other and engage with society in new ways.
“Sadly while the internet can be a useful tool to educate our children it can also expose them to very real dangers.
“There is a responsibility on all of us to educate and empower our children and young people, to recognise and deal with those dangers.
"The theme for this year's Safer Internet Day is 'Be the change: Unite for a better internet'.
“Often children learn by example so there is an onus on parents and those who work with children and young people to ensure they use the internet in the correct manner.
“Internet Safety Day is important as it provides everyone with an opportunity to reflect on how best to deal with the problems that arise and how best to keep children safe.”
