Quinlivan welcomes KBC continued commitment to Ireland
Sinn Féin Limerick TD Maurice Quinlivan has welcomed the commitment today from KBC bank which follows weeks of uncertainty as the bank conducted a strategic review of its Group’s Irish activities. It is welcome news especially for their staff that they have re-stated their long term commitment to Ireland.
Deputy Quinlivan said:
“This is good news today and I’m sure will be a huge reassurance to the 1,000 staff across the state who have clearly been waiting anxiously for the results of this review. Many staff members were rightly to be concerned and they will be very relieved by today’s announcement.
“Unfortunately, strategic reviews all too often mean company closures or jobs losses. However, KBC have today reaffirmed their long standing commitment of 40 years to the Irish market. It is anticipated that Ireland will become one of the group’s core markets this is a welcome relief for the staff and, I’m sure, its customers.
“The bank’s commitment to further target retail and micro-SME clients is also welcome. Many of these companies struggle to get credit so having KBC looking to target that market I’m sure will help them access credit.
“KBC Bank Ireland employs over 1,000 people in Ireland with branches in Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Galway, Kildare, Waterford, Wicklow and Kilkenny.
“Today’s announcement is very welcome vote of confidence by KBC in its Irish staff.
“As Ireland faces massive challenges as a result of UK’s decision to leave the EU and the possible negative effects on our country that Brexit will cause, KBC’s reaffirmed long standing commitments to Ireland at this time of uncertainty to Ireland are very welcome.”
