Gerry Adams TD calls for Irish government White Paper on Brexit
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has called for the Taoiseach and Irish government to immediately publish a White Paper outlining their strategic approach and policy objectives for the forthcoming Brexit negotiations.
The Sinn Féin leader said: “The government’s abject failure to properly address the various controversies around the Garda, Tusla, the role of Ministers and the campaign of vilification against Maurice McCabe is mirrored in its disastrous approach to Brexit.
"With the British government’s triggering of Article 50 only weeks away the failure of the Enda Kenny and his government to comprehensively set out its negotiations strategy and national objectives is a matter of grave concern for citizens, workers and key sectors across the island.
"I have repeatedly called on the Taoiseach and government to agree a strategic approach to the negotiations with clear political and economic and trade objectives that protect the interests of all citizens on the island of Ireland, defend the Good Friday Agreement, and ensures that the frontier between the EU and Britain is not on the island of Ireland.
"This means upholding the democratic vote in the North to remain. It also requires the government who are at the negotiating table to actively campaign for the North to have a special designated status within the EU, and act in the national interests of the whole island.
"The government needs to publish, as a matter of urgency, a White Paper setting out its strategy and objectives in the Brexit negotiations."
