Stardust families deserve answers about commission of investigation on 36th anniversary– Denise Mitchell TD
The Stardust families have waited 36 years for answers and on the anniversary of the tragedy the Government have still not given any time-frame as to a commission of investigation said Denise Mitchell TD.
Denise Mitchell TD for Dublin Bay North stated:
‘This has been a very long journey for the families of the victims and the survivors. Yet they still have no clarity from the Government on when or if a commission of investigation will be established.
‘A motion was passed in the Dáil back in January which committed the Government to a commission of investigation if new evidence is uncovered. Alongside this we have also a commitment in the Fianna Fáil – Fine Gael Programme for Government which will have regard to any new evidence. But there is still, it seems, no will from the Government to act, as steps have not been outlined to the implementation of the Stardust motion.
‘The families do not know when an independent expert will be appointed, or how long they may have to access evidence. The families expect a conclusion to this process. They have waited far too long for answers and they need action from the government and to know the truth of the events of that night which took the lives of 48 people and injured 100’s of others. The families’, survivors, and community deserve the truth."
