Doolan welcomes City Council's directive to mobile phone companies
Sinn Féin Dublin Spokesperson on Environment and Representative for Dublin South East, Councillor Daithí Doolan, welcomed, "City Council's call for mobile phone companies to consult with local communities before any further installations take place here in Dublin."
Speaking in City Hall after the vote, Cllr. Doolan said:
"Today's motion has put on record the fact that mobile phone companies must consult with communities before any further masts are installed here in Dublin. It calls on companies to engage with local communities before any more installations take place. Residents must now be fully consulted with and must have their concerns fully and adequately dealt with. This can only be done when companies engage with these communities.
"I fully understand the fact that mobile phone masts must be erected but this should not happen at the expense of local residents quality of life. ''
The motion, which was passed unanimously by the south East Area Committee, read, "In light of the genuine concerns related to the installation of phone masts this Area Committee calls on phone companies to consult with communities prior to the erection on such masts."
In conclusion Cllr. Doolan called on mobile phone companies, "to take this directive on board and to consult with those of us concerned with health and safety in the city."
