McMullan calls for urgent action on the theft of firearms
Sinn Féin's Oliver McMullan has said the PSNI need to take urgent action to tackle the theft of firearms in east Antrim.
The East Antrim candidate said:
"Between 2010 and 2016 there were 37 legally held firearms stolen in the East Antrim area.
"I have now discovered under Freedom of Information legislation that not one of these stolen weapons has been recovered by the PSNI.
"That is very concerning and there are very real concerns in the local area that these guns could be in the hands of loyalist groups and other criminals who pose a threat to the people of East Antrim.
"I will be writing to the PSNI Chief Constable to raise my concern about this and to call for a dedicated focus to be put on tackling firearm theft in the area."
