Bus Eireann management bulldozing ahead with plan without Agreement - Imelda Munster TD
Sinn Fein TD Spokesperson on Transport, Tourism and Sport Imelda Munster TD has accused Bus Eireann management of bulldozing ahead with their plan without agreement.
Deputy Munster was speaking after it was announced that NBRU and SIPTU members at Bus Eireann will commence all out strike action from next Monday in response to management’s decision to plough ahead with a plan to cut to routes and other financial measures.
She called on Minister Shane Ross to stop hiding and to take responsibility for finding a solution.
“The approach of Bus Eireann management to this situation has been one characterised by a reckless stubbornness and intransigence. They hace decided to bulldoze ahead with their plan without agreement with workers and their representatives.
"Management has created a situation in which workers now feel that commencing industrial action is the best way to defend their working conditions and their livelihoods.
“The government is standing on the sidelines as another crisis within our transport network comes to a head.
“Where is Transport Minister Ross? Is he going to continue to take a back seat while we witness plans to cut vital public transport routes that serve rural and urban communities right across the state? Where is the Minister hiding now that we are facing into an all out strike from next Monday?
“Minister Ross has to take responsibility for his repeated refusal to engage or support engagement of all the stakeholders to find a resolution over the last number of months.
“This government’s right wing ideology of outsourcing and privatising our public transport network, whilst turning a blind eye to bad policies and mismanagement, has caused this financial crisis.
“They are the ones to blame for this mess, not the workers.”
