Water committee can & must complete its work by the deadline – Eoin Ó Broin TD
Speaking this evening after the water committee Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Broin has expressed disappointment that more progress wasn’t made.
Deputy Ó Broin said:
“Despite the fact the little was done during this afternoon’s meeting, the committee has set in place an agreed process to move forward with its work. The committee members will receive a revised draft of the report and will re convene next Tuesday to discuss it. Sinn Féin firmly believes that a final report can be agreed by the end of next week.
“However in order to facilitate progress we need the political game playing to stop. We need to focus on making decisions.
“Not all members of the committee have declared their hand yet on the contentious issues of domestic metering and the introduction of a charge for so-called excessive usage. There is a real prospect that the committee will be spilt down the middle and unable to bring a report to the Dáil. Minister Coveney must outline what his response will be if this scenario unfolds.”
“I do welcome media reports that the Minister will provide the members of the committee with the Attorney General’s legal advice and I urge him to do this as soon as possible.”
