Residents of Kilkenny's St. Patrick's Centre attended 'Grace' foster home on respite breaks - Kathleen Funchion TD

2 March, 2017 - by Kathleen Funchion TD

Sinn Féin’s TD for Carlow/Kilkenny Kathleen Funchion has reacted today to the news that a number of residents of Kilkenny’s St Patrick’s Centre (former and current) availed of respite breaks in the foster home in question at the heart of the Grace foster care scandal.

She said:

"I am seriously concerned at the news that a number of residents of St Patrick’s Centre in Kilkenny (former and current) availed of respite breaks in the foster home in question during the time that Grace was living there. This is harrowing news given their attendance took place during the period of Grace's horrific abuse in that home.

"The HSE has been in contact with the families involved. Some families have accepted meetings with the HSE to discuss the recent reports and I have been told that all families of those who would have availed of these respite breaks have been provided with copies of the reports. The HSE has said that ‘Easy Read’ Copies of the reports are available to residents of St Patrick’s and that Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) Staff are available to support Residents, families and staff as appropriate.

"It is my view that St. Patrick’s Centre should be brought into the remit of any investigations taking place."
