Imelda Munster TD welcomes resumption of Bus Eireann talks, despite Ross no-show
Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Transport Imelda Munster TD has today welcomed the suspension of the Bus Éireann strike, as the company’s management and union representatives have agreed to resume talks at the Workers Relations Commission (WRC). Talks are due to begin on Monday.
Deputy Munster said:
“I welcome the scheduling of these talks. No one wants the strike to go ahead.
“I hope that Bus Éireann management’s approach is genuine, and that they are coming to the table with something new which does not concentrate on workers as the main target for cuts, and preferably with input from Minister Ross or his department.
“It is in everyone’s interest that this round of talks is more positive and productive than those held last weekend. Workers and public transport users in rural areas have been unfairly targeted.
“I am repeating my call to Minister Ross to take part in finding a resolution to this crisis, or even for him to facilitate his department in playing a role at these talks. A real solution requires input from all stakeholders.
“I sincerely hope that workers are not put into a situation where they have to go on strike and that a resolution can be found next week.”
