Noonan should simply say “no” to any Permanent TSB sale to vultures - Pearse Doherty TD

8 March, 2017 - by Pearse Doherty TD

Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD has said the Minister for Finance who owns 75% of Permanent TSB Michael Noonan should simply say “no” to any plan to sell distressed mortgages to vulture funds.

Deputy Doherty said:

“Once more the prospect of thousands of families struggling to pay their mortgage waking up to a letter saying they are now in debt to a vulture fund has raised its head. This time the Minister for Finance needs to simply say “no”.

“The usual nonsense about relationship frameworks will be spouted I’m sure but the fact is that if the Minister were to tell the bank “no” today this idea would be scrapped.  That is exactly what he should do.

“The vultures have been feasting for years now while a compliant government fed them and turned a blind eye to their tax affairs. That has to stop. Only last week I tried to get a commitment from the Minister on this issue. Unfortunately I was met with a mealy-mouthed response as usual.”
