Kearney commends community support for elderly victim

14 March, 2017 - by Declan Kearney

South Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Declan Kearney has commended residents in Town Parks North, Antrim for standing in solidarity with a local resident in her 90s who was the victim of a recent burglary.

“I congratulate the Town Parks North community group for taking this important initiative, and local people for coming out in large numbers to demonstrate solidarity with their elderly neighbour.

“This type of community empowerment is the key to combating those criminals in our midst who prey on our elderly and vulnerable citizens. The residents who turned out to show their support have sent a clear message of solidarity to the victim of this latest crime, and demonstrated an emphatic zero tolerance for all criminality.

“I commend all those who have taken a stand in the face of this latest crime against a frail elderly woman. I hope she will take comfort from this show of solidarity and that residents in Town Parks North will get the support they deserve from the relevant agencies to ensure their estate becomes a safe place for everyone.”
