Decision to refuse funding for youth providers should be overturned - Maskey
Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has said a decision of the Education Authority to refuse funding to a number of youth providers across Belfast should be overturned.
The West Belfast MP said:
"This cut today will effectively close the doors of some youth clubs including youth provision through the medium of Irish.
"Today is the last day of the financial year and some of the groups affected were only told late this afternoon. That is no way to do business.
"I met with the Chief Executive of the Education Authority this morning along with representatives from youth providers across the city on a separate matter. At no stage did he mention that some of them present would be receiving a letter of rejection in the afternoon.
"I have spoken to the Chief Executive again following this news and made it clear that this is a bad decision and should be overturned.
"He has assured me he will see if that's possible and will respond early next week."
