Fianna Fáil should back Sinn Féin motion to remove Commissioner – Adams

4 April, 2017 - by Gerry Adams

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has called on Fianna Fáil to “stop party politicking on the future of the Garda Commissioner and agree to support Sinn Féin’s motion next week to remove her in the best interests of An Garda Síochána”.

The Sinn Féin leader made his call after the Fianna Fáil Justice spokesperson Jim O’Callaghan TD said on RTÉ this evening that if his party was in Government, it would be invoking the powers to remove the Commissioner.

Deputy Adams said:

“Fianna Fáil has already stated its inability to express confidence in Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan.

“Deputy O’Callaghan’s statement this evening has now taken this issue to a new level. It is a clear statement of no confidence in the Garda Commissioner.

“Fianna Fáil has to stop dancing on the head of a pin over the Garda Commissioner. They say they would sack her if they were in Government; they should join the demand that this Government does exactly that.”
