Donegal fire stations need renovation, not amalgamation – Kenny

5 April, 2017 - by Martin Kenny TD

Speaking in Leinster House today, Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny, who represents Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan and South Donegal called on the Minister for Local Government Simon Coveney to act to ensure the continued existence of two Donegal fire stations.

Deputy Kenny said:

“The fire stations at Ballyshannon and Bundoran are in urgent need of repair and renovation and this should be done as soon as possible. They are both staffed by retained firefighters, who deserve the best possible conditions for their work.

“There is a fear locally that instead of carrying out the necessary renovation of the fire station buildings, the Department has plans to consolidate them into one station.

“This is not an acceptable arrangement and the people of Donegal, as well as their firefighters, deserve better. I call on Minister Coveney to reassure the Donegal community that there is no such plan and that the necessary renovation will go ahead.”
