RTÉ investigates revelations merit immediate recall of Dáil – O’Reilly
Sinn Féin TD Louise O’Reilly has stated that revelations made in last night’s RTÉ Investigates programme, which focused on the murder of Garda Tony Golden, the attempted murder of Siobhan Phillips, and the suicide of Crevan Mackin in Omeath, Co Louth in 2015, merit the immediate recall of the Dáil.
Speaking from Leinster House this afternoon, Deputy O’Reilly said;
“There are very serious questions to be answered surrounding the arrest of Crevan Mackin in January 2015 and events in Omeath later that year.
“Siobhan Phillips and Garda Golden should not have been in this highly dangerous situation.
“This has been a horrific tragedy for the families of Garda Golden, Siobhan Phillips, and for the Mackin family.
“Since October 2015, Gerry Adams TD has written to The Minister for Justice on eight occasions, the Taoiseach four times, and to GSOC three times to express his grave concerns about the case arising from information that was sent to his office.
“He provided both the Taoiseach and the Minister for Justice with all the information in his possession.
“The responses he received have been completely unsatisfactory.
“They have known about the significant issues surrounding this case for at least eighteen months and yet there has been no indication that they are treated it with the gravity that it demands.
“It is also important to note that The Minister for Justice and the Taoiseach supported the Garda Commissioner and opposed a motion of no confidence while being aware of this case.
“The disturbing revelations relating to this case are so serious that they merit the immediate recall of the Dáil from Easter recess.
“Gerry Adams has now written to the Taoiseach asking that he recall the Dáil to deal with this very important matter.”
