Sinn Féin TD and Mental Health spokesperson Mary Lou today launched a major Sinn Féin campaign on mental health during the month of May to coincide with Green Ribbon month. She was joined by her colleagues Pat Buckley TD, deputy spokesperson on Mental Health, and Senator Máire Devine, Seanad spokesperson on Health and Wellbeing.
Speaking this morning, Deputy McDonald said:
“Sinn Fein is proud to launch this ‘30 Days of May’ mental health campaign, in support of SeeChange’s Green Ribbon month.
“Our campaign this month will help raise awareness about mental health and will help end the stigma surrounding mental health.
“We will be meeting those working in mental health and campaigning on mental health issues.
“Sinn Féin is committed to developing policies and legislation which will enhance mental health and reduce suicide.
“Sinn Féin’s ‘30 Days of May’ campaign aims to promote attitudes and practices which support wellbeing.
“Our mental health campaign this month will encourage those who have concerns about mental health or suicide to raise these concerns openly and not feel marginalised.
“Our team will be engaged in a series of events, conferences, and the publication of legislative proposals throughout the month of May which will promote wellbeing and if adopted will close the glaring gaps in existing mental health services.
“Sinn Féin TDs, Senators, and councillors will be wearing the Green Ribbon to show our support for destigmatising mental health and promote wellbeing throughout Ireland north and south.”
