DUP still trying to block equality - Walsh
Sinn Féin councillor Seánna Walsh has said the DUP's attempt to block the appointment of an Irish Language Officer on Belfast City Council shows their continued contempt and opposition to equality.
Councillor Walsh said:
"I welcome the fact that Belfast City Council has voted to approve Draft language policy to promote the development of Irish in the city.
"It was encouraging that this proposal was supported by progressive parties on Council.
"However, the DUP's attempt to block this groundbreaking proposal and their position on other issues at tonight's council meetings shows that they continue to oppose equality and all things Irish.
"It's clear the DUP have learned nothing from the public's rejection of the DUP's arrogance and their contempt for equality and the Irish Language and identity in the recent election."
