McDonald demands that O’Sullivan clarifies nature of ‘brief’ Templemore meeting
Sinn Féin Deputy Leader and member of the Public Accounts Committee Mary Lou McDonald TD has called on the Garda Commissioner Norin O’Sullivan to clarify her position on a meeting held in Templemore in July 2015.
Deputy McDonald said this morning;
“The Garda Commissioner’s contributions yesterday were full of discrepancies, evasion and delay.
“Ms O’Sullivan is expected back before the PAC in the coming weeks and she needs to return with full and frank answers to these other very serious questions.
“In response to my questions at yesterday’s PAC meeting, Ms O’Sullivan recounted a ‘brief’ meeting in July 2015 with the Garda’s Executive Director of Human Resources John Barrett. This completely contradicts Mr Barrett’s account of the meeting. He provided evidence that the meeting lasted for over two hours.
“Ms O’Sullivan has had time to reflect on her remarks so today I ask her to clarify her position. Did she mislead the PAC yesterday in describing this meeting as a five-minute chat over tea? She must now clarify her remarks as a matter of urgency.”
