Brady in fresh call for information on the Disappeared

11 May, 2017 - by Mickey Brady

Sinn Féin’s Mickey Brady said today that the identification of Seamus Ruddy’s remains in France is a critical step in providing truth and some comfort to his family.

Mr Brady said:

“I understand that remains found in Pont-de-l’Arche in France over the weekend have been formally identified as those of Newry man Seamus Ruddy.

“This news will bring great comfort and relief for a family who have waited long for truth and closure and for their fundamental right to bury their loved one.

“Growing up together in Ballybot, Seamus is somebody who I would have called a friend, and as preparations are made to ensure the safe passage home of his remains my thoughts are with his family and friends.

“The suffering of the families of the Disappeared has gone on too long. They deserve the respect and the truth surrounding the fate of their loved ones and the location of their remains.

"Sinn Féin calls once again for anyone with information that could lead to the retrieval of bodies in the outstanding cases to come forward to the Commission."
