Local Sinn Fein rep calls for clarity on potential new Garda Station in Cherrywood

12 May, 2017 - by Chris Curran

Sinn Féin Councillor for Sandyford Glencullen has expressed his relief that moves are in place to source a new Garda station very close to Carrickmines and Cherrywood.

Speaking this afternoon Councillor Curran said;

“Having heard the news from two trusted sources, as far I understand it, a new site has been identified at the extreme eastern end of Cherrywood, very close to Glenamuck Road. The site is ideal as it will position the Garda right in the centre of the constituency.

“Whilst we absolutely support the immediate need for the reopening of Stepaside Garda, the reality is that the local population is expected increase in the region of about 50,000 people, the building in Stepaside is too small and we need to start preparing for the population increase now.

“Sinn Féin recognised the need a few years ago and we began a campaign for a new Garda station. I also brought the issue to the attention of senior Gardaí at Joint Policing meetings and I’m delighted that the voice of the people was heard.

“Given the possible location of the new site and its proximity to Cabinteely Garda station, I’m call on the minister to confirm the plan and to bring clarity to the situation.”
