Gerry Kelly offers condolences to Barrett family
Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has expressed his condolences to the family of Molly Barrett, the mother of 15-year-old Danny Barrett who was shot dead by the British Army in 1981.
Gerry Kelly said:
“Molly Barrett had her 15-year-old son taken away from her when the British Army murdered him on 9th July 1981.
“Danny’s father and Molly’s husband Jimmy passed away years earlier and his death was seen by the family as a consequence of his son’s killing.
“No British Army soldier was ever charged with his death. This was symptomatic of state killings throughout the conflict.
“Molly Barrett and the rest of her family bore their terrible loss with dignity and fortitude. On behalf of Sinn Féin I would like to offer our deepest sympathy to Molly’s wider family circle.”
