O’Reilly implores Minister for Children and Youth Affairs to include St Clare’s, Stamullen in investigation of Mother and Baby Home
Speaking in the Dáil this afternoon Sinn Féin TD for Dublin Fingal Louise O’Reilly has called on the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Katherine Zappone to include St Clare’s, Stamullen in the Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes.
Deputy O’Reilly said;
“This issue is too serious to allow stagnate and has affected too many people for the terms of reference not to be broadened to include every Mother and Baby Home in the state.
“I know this is an issue that affects so many people and families, and it behoves us to do right by them.
“A number of people who suffered in St Clare’s Mother and Baby Home, Stamullen have asked me to put on the Dáil record that the terms of reference should include this home.
“I concur with those calls, and implore Minister Zappone to include this home, and every other Mother and Baby Home, in the investigation.
“In particular, there should be a focus on homes where vaccine trials were carried out on babies and young children. These children were brutalised and failed by the State.
“Before Minister Zappone drafts the terms of reference she should meet representatives from those excluded homes and acquiesce to their wishes to have all homes included.”
