Councillor Chris Curran welcomes news of Stepaside Garda Station reopening
Sandyford/Glencullen Sinn Féin Councillor Chris Curran has welcomed news today that Stepaside Garda Station is to reopen but said it needs to be properly resourced.
He also said that given the new developments in the area, including the massive development at Cherrywood, a new modern garda station should be built.
Councillor Curran said;
“This is great news for the area and I want to congratulate everyone who worked so hard to ensure that Stepaside Garda station is reopened.
“The decision to close this station by our former Fine Gael TD Alan Shatter was clearly wrong and this was proven by the increased crime rates in the aftermath of the closure.
“We now need to ensure that the station is properly resourced with the right amount of Gardaí and we need to see a date for the reopening.
“We also need to look at the future demographics of this area to ensure that garda levels remain adequate.
“Developments in the Dublin 18 area, including the massive retail, office and residential development at Cherrywood, will see nearly 10,000 additional homes built in this area in a short few years meaning that requirements in this area are changing and a new modern garda station should be built to meet the needs of our community.”
