‘Repeal and Enact’ public meeting to be held in Dublin Central – McDonald
Sinn Féin deputy leader Mary Lou McDonald will host a public meeting as part of Sinn Féin’s campaign to repeal the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution.
The meeting will call on the government to Repeal and Enact – Repeal the Eighth Amendment and enact appropriate legislation and will take place on Thursday 22nd June at 7.30pm in the Prussia St Community Centre.
Teachta McDonald said:
“All are welcome to Sinn Féin’s public meeting on Thursday. The campaign to repeal the Eighth Amendment is well underway and it is important that all voices are heard. There can be no more delay tactics. We need a repeal of the Eighth Amendment and the enactment of legislation in the Dáil.
“Thursday’s panel will hear from Orla O’Connor (Director, National Women’s Council) and Gerry Edwards (TFMR)
“The Eighth Amendment affects women and their families in every part of the country. It has to go and it must be replaced with compassion.
“For our part, Sinn Féin supports the right of a woman to seek, if she wishes, a termination of pregnancy under the terms of the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act. We further support the enactment of legislation, north and south, to allow for terminations in the cases of fatal foetal abnormalities, rape, and incest. In the south, this will require the repeal of the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution.
“Sinn Féin is up for the challenge and up for the fight. There can be no more delays, the Eighth must go.”
