Sinn Féin taking action on bin charge hikes with weekend protests – Ó Broin
Sinn Féin is taking action on the proposed hike in waste charges with a series of protests and information stalls across the State this weekend.
Speaking in support of the actions, Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Broin said:
“We are calling on all those opposed to the new waste charge increases to come out and stand with struggling families this weekend.
“Sinn Féin will not accept this increased charge on hard-pressed families. We are taking action across the State this weekend with a series of protests and information stalls calling on the government and Fianna Fáil to stop these changes.
“Nowhere within the new charging scheme has the government provided a meaningful waiver or alleviation measures for those who will find it difficult to meet the increased charges.
“Those with medical conditions and disabilities, large families and low income households will bear the brunt of the government’s decision to allow private operators to charge whatever they want for an essential service.
“Sinn Féin will resist this and we call on all parties to do the same when we table our motion in the Dáil next week.”
