Hazzard to brief Irish America
Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard will be in the US this week to speak at the New York State Convention of the AOH /LAOH on the current political situation in Ireland and the campaign to reunite Ireland .
The newly-elected South-Down MP leaves today (Thursday) for a number of speaking engagements organised by the AOH and LAOH Freedom for all-Ireland committees in Buffalo, New York .He will also meet with the National Brexit committee of the AOH.
He commented: “There is a huge amount of interest in North America regarding the current political situation in Ireland and I am delighted to take this opportunity to provide an update on the Stormont negotiations as well as Brexit and the campaign for a new Ireland.
“Sinn Féin’s excellent performance in recent elections, coupled with the fact that unionism has now lost its majority for the first time in the history of the northern state has dramatically demonstrated the shifting political dynamic here and Irish reunification is now seriously on the agenda.
“Irish America has played a key part on those achievements and we are thankful for their ongoing and invaluable support for the peace and political process in Ireland.
“I greatly look forward to working with the diaspora in the time ahead as we confront the challenge of Brexit and continue to build support for a new and inclusive Ireland which values and protects all her citizens.”
