O’Neill meets with New York State Comptroller
Sinn Féin Northern leader Michelle O’Neill MLA met with New York State Comptroller Dr Tom DiNapoli today to discuss investment opportunities and the peace process.
Comptroller DiNapoli has stewardship of the $192bn New York State pension fund which holds millions of dollars of stock in companies with operations in the North and in that role has made equality of opportunity for all here a priority.
He has also made the biggest-ever venture capital investments in the North in order to build the peace, placing $15m with Crescent Capital and $7m with Kernel Capital to fund start-up and early-stage companies.
Said Michelle O’Neill:
“We are thrilled that Comptroller DiNapoli has returned to Ireland to pursue his ‘double bottom line’ investment strategy of garnering a return for the one million-plus New York State retirees while also doing good. I congratulated him on receiving an honorary doctorate this week from Ulster University in recognition of his support for the peace process over the past decade.
“I was especially pleased to see Dr DiNapoli take time out in Derry to meet with the new MP for Foyle Elisha McCallion and welcome his interest in making further commitments to the Derry-Donegal region.
“I have no doubt his leadership will encourage others, including Invest NI, to seize the potential of the northwest and ensure we cement the peace process progress have made with jobs."
