Taoiseach must be challenged on Jobstown allegations – McDonald

15 July, 2017 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has today challenged an Taoiseach Leo Varadkar over his comments in the Dáil earlier this week on the Jobstown tribunal.

Teachta McDonald said;

“Taoiseach Varadkar has said that he is concerned over the clash between Garda and Video evidence in the Jobstown trial.

“Any suggestion that Garda officers gave false or misleading evidence is a most serious matter.

“The Taoiseach has articulated that very concern. As head of Government it is not good enough for him to leave the matter hanging.

“Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan has made clear that the Garda review will not address the matter of concern to An Taoiseach and the wider public.

“Today I am challenging the Taoiseach again, and again calling on him to clarify how these allegations of false trial evidence will be reviewed and handled.

“He needs to make this clear not only in the in the interest of the public, but in fairness also to the Gardaí concerned."
