Taoiseach’s Pride visit welcome, marriage equality should be extended north – Fearon

1 August, 2017 - by Megan Fearon

Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has welcomed the announcement that An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will attend an event in Belfast during the Pride festival.

Megan Fearon said:

"I welcome the support of the Taoiseach for marriage equality and his attendance at this year's Pride festival.

"We want to see the same right to equal marriage enjoyed throughout the rest of Ireland extended to the north immediately.

"Sinn Féin has been working to secure the full implementation of the Good Friday and subsequent agreements.

"The Irish government, as a co-guarantor of the Good Friday and other agreements, has a key role to play in ensuring these agreements are implemented.

“Currently the British Tory government and the DUP are blocking rights and equality, including language rights, marriage equality and the right to coroner’s inquests.

“The recent court judgement on the British state’s Glenanne Gang, throws the latter into sharp relief.”
