Clarity needed for EU citizens living in North - Archibald

4 August, 2017 - by Caoimhe Archibald

Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald said there must be clarity for EU citizens living in the north post Brexit as soon as possible.

Commenting on a Russell Group briefing Caoimhe Archibald said:

"There is a significant number of EU citizens employed within universities. The briefing from Russell Group of universities, of which Queen’s University is a member, outlined the importance of the contribution of EU citizens to teaching and research.

“It also highlighted the uncertainty and anxiety Brexit has caused among staff, and the impact on recruitment of other EU nationals.

"The briefing outlines some key asks on the status of EU citizens post-Brexit and importantly calls for cross border recognition of qualifications post-Brexit.

"It is vital to ensure the rights of those EU citizens who've made their homes here are protected.

“All of these issues can be best addressed by ensuring designated special status for the north within the EU."
