Time for all local politicians to support Ballyogan Swimming Pool

14 August, 2017 - by Chris Curran

Sinn Féin Councillor Chris Curran, has called all Dublin Rathdown politicians to make the delivery of Ballyogan's new swimming pool a top priority and to pledge their support for the outstanding €10million in external capital funding.

The call comes after Minister Shane Ross's was pranked by local kids in Ballyogan this weekend when he was attending the local mini-world cup.  Standing where the swimming pool is supposed to be built Minister Ross stood for a photograph unaware that the local kids were making a political point with an inflatable pool.

Cllr Curran said, "The population of Leopardstown, Stepaside and Carrickmines areas are expected to grow hugely over the next couple of years. The area is void of desperately needed community facilities and our young people need places the go.

“Sinn Féin has real fears that the Samuel Beckett Civic Campus, within which the pool is planned, could become unattainable because of rising tender inflation.

"Over the last couple of years, I have put forward council business to raise funds, develop plans and keep the completion as a priority.

“It is now time for all Dublin Rathdown politicians, including Fine Gael’s Josepha Madigan TD and Senator Neale Richmond, to pledge their support for this project and to make it a priority.

“Minister Ross has the power to advance this project but unfortunately he seems preoccupied with the demand for the reopening of Glenalbyn Swimming Pool even though that project has already been agreed and has the backing of all local politicians.”
