'Local workforce must be protected in Bombardier dispute' - Ó Muilleoir
Every effort should be made to protect workers here from any fallout of the Boeing-Bombardier dispute in the US, Sinn Féin's Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has said.
The South Belfast MLA was speaking as the US Department of Commerce probes a complaint from Boeing that Bombardier received unfair assistance from government.
"Bombardier is a huge employer here and is a massive part of our economy so there are obvious concerns about how this dispute could impact on their Belfast operation," he commented.
"Our Leader in the North Michelle O'Neill has met with the US Consul General on the issue and she will be meeting with the US Ambassador.
"Michelle O'Neill and Arlene Foster have written to the US Vice President Mike Pence stressing the importance of Bombardier to our economy and we would expect that every effort is made to protect the local workforce, regardless of the outcome of this dispute.”
