Mullan to meet Education Authority over school transport safety concerns
Sinn Féin MLA Karen Mullan has asked the Education Authority for assurance that safety checks are routinely performed on school transport vehicles.
The party’s education spokesperson was speaking after reports a young girl fell out of a school bus window in Fermanagh.
Karen Mullan said:
"The Education Authority must provide immediate clarification on the cause of a serious incident in Fermanagh following reports that a child fell out the window of a school bus.
"This incident follows the reports of unacceptable excessive travel times experienced by children with special educational needs.
"The Education Authority must immediately clarify the cause of this incident and confirm that safety checks are routinely performed on transport.
"Parents need assurances that their children will be taken to and from school safely on school transport.
"I will be seeking an immediate meeting with the Education Authority on this matter."
