Sinn Féin’s Alternative Budget is a Budget for ordinary citizens – Adams

3 October, 2017 - by Gerry Adams

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has said “Sinn Féin’s Alternative Budget for 2018 is a Budget for ordinary people”.

Speaking at the launch of the party’s proposals in Dublin today, Teachta Adams said;

“In a week’s time, the Minister for Finance pascal Donohoe will announce Budget 2018 on behalf of this failing government.

“It comes at a time of unprecedented crises in our public services, particularly in the areas of housing and health.

“Sinn Féin believes that the best way to give struggling families a break is to invest in building decent public services.

“In Sinn Féin’s view, there is no room to give tax cuts to the well-off in this Budget. This Budget should be geared towards building a more equal society.

“That means that all available resources must be used to rebuild our public infrastructure. That means investing to end the crises in health and housing.

“The crises in our public services have not come about because of mistakes. They are the result of the bad policies of successive governments.

“People do not want the government to give them a bit a spare change. They want a government that will deliver decent hospitals, schools and houses.

“With this Alternative Budget, Sinn Féin is saying ‘enough is enough’. This Alternative Budget is a budget for ordinary citizens.”
