O’Dowd expresses sympathies to Tindale family

5 October, 2017 - by John O'Dowd

Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd has offered his deepest sympathies to the family of Cameron Tindale.

The Upper Bann MLA was speaking after an inquest found there were delays in informing the toddler’s parents that abnormalities had been detected in test results.

John O’Dowd said:

"It is deeply saddening to learn that the death of 15 month-old Cameron Tindale could potentially have been avoided.

"The seven week delay for the Southern Health Trust to inform the family that abnormalities had been detected by a previous test is unacceptable.

"It had to have been particularly distressful for the family for the test results informing Mr and Mrs Tindale that Cameron was at a higher risk of suffering further seizures and recommending another test to arrive on the day of his funeral, in the midst of their grief.

“This should not have happened; the Tindale’s should have received the test results as soon as they were available.

"I am aware the Trust have said that systems have been overhauled so that children's test results are delivered much more quickly. The Trust need to ensure the system now delivers Children's test results as soon as they are available.

"I offer my deepest sympathies to the Tindale family circle. A situation like this can never be allowed to happen again."
